Honolulu Rail: Cost overrun saga continues

The Honolulu Rail project is shaping up to be a major saga in the contemporary history of Hawaii straddling the worlds of government, taxes and transportation infrastructure.

This page collects together into an annotated bibliography videos and articles that provide history and commentary on the Honolulu Rail project.

TECHNICAL CRITIQUE

Dr. Panos D. Prevedouros, a professor of civil engineering at the University of Hawaii has provided the main critical engineering commentary on the project and was the go-to source when the New York Times did a piece on the rail project in May, 2017 (see here and see his homepage here & blog here with extensive coverage of local transportation issues).

He provides a technical assessment in a Think Tech interview below:

INVESTIGATIVE JOURNALISM

The local journalist Mark Coleman has provided an overview of the history and issues at play in the project and how they have developed over time in his "Honolulu rail clearly a fiasco" written for the Grassroot Institute of Hawaii (see here).  He discusses the project in a Think Tech interview below:

LEGAL DIMENSION

Legal dimensions of the project are explored with University of Hawaii law professor Randy Roth in two Think Tech interviews below:
